Different Styles

With over 50 classes per week to choose from, where do you start? Styles of yoga are described below from most restful to most intense. We pride ourselves in featuring the best yoga teachers in the area. Enjoy taking from each one as they each have a refined style and something different to teach you!

Restorative Yoga

Restorative Yoga is a therapeutic style of yoga which utilizes props to make it easier for the body to get into certain poses, and thus, surrender to the pose. Practicing poses using props provides a completely supportive environment for total relaxation. The more your body is supported in the poses the deeper the sense of relaxation. Restorative yoga focuses on relaxation, renewal, effortlessness and ease. Blankets, bolsters, straps, and other props safely support the body in various postures which allows the body to move towards a state of balance. This practice soothes your nervous system, helps you quiet your mind and invites you to release deeply held tension. Bring your own props, or borrow them from the studio.

Gentle Flow

Gentle Flow yoga classes begin with warm-ups and proceed to step-by-step asana instruction, providing you with an active yet gentle practice that focuses on breath work, strengthening of the core and back, stretching, toning, relaxation, and meditation. This class will help you open up areas of tightness, such as hips and shoulders, and get you moving with basic Sun Salutations sequences—always with suggestions for modifications and proper alignment. Perfect for those newer to yoga, recovering from an injury, or that desire a slower paced yoga practice in a supportive and fun environment. Classes are held in the Ganesha (non-heated) Studio.

Yoga Foundations

This class is appropriate for everyone, especially for beginners, students wishing to refine their practice, or those individuals recovering from an injury. In this class we will explore the asanas (poses) with a focus on our alignment and the more subtle aspects of the poses, connecting the breath with movement and gently inviting the body to move with increased awareness and ease. Classes will focus on the foundations of the pose, key actions needed in the body to engage individual poses, and breathing techniques as we build towards a final pose or focus on specific regions of the body (hips, shoulders, feet, etc). Modifications may be offered to address any physical limitations or to make the poses more challenging.

Power Basics

An ideal class for beginners or experienced students who want a more simple flow in a comfortable temperature. Sun Salutations will warm up the body as well as open and strengthen all major muscle groups. Foundational and balancing poses will be explored as well as hip and shoulder openers. The class will focus on breathing techniques and proper alignment while combining strength, flexibility, endurance, and balance. Modifications will be offered which will address both physical limitations and ways to make poses more challenging.

All-Levels Vinyasa

Vinyasa means "flow" and employs the technique of connecting postures, or asanas, into different sequences. This practice emphasizes matching breath to movement. Vinyasa yoga is one of the most commonly practiced styles in the West. It is derived from the Ashtanga series as developed by Sri Pattabhi Jois but differs from it in that a vinyasa class does not follow a set series of poses. Therefore, any vinyasa yoga class can vary widely from the next. As the name suggests, this yoga class consists of a mindful and fluid flow of poses, with a focus on the breath. This class is designed to help develop strength, improve flexibility and balance and reduce stress. Appropriate for students of all levels as modifications will be offered by the teacher. This class may be taught in the Hot Studio or the non-heated Ganesha Studio.

LSD: Long, Slow, & Deep!

Moving slowly with mindful awareness, we heat the body from the inside out. The vinyasa will be designed to open and release stuck energies and to assist you in finding a deep inner connection to the self. Extra time will be devoted to yin poses, stretching the connective tissues where we often bury our issues! Don’t be fooled by its name…this 75 minute class is CHALLENGING! “Yoga is the cessation of the fluctuations of the mind” Yoga Sutra 1:2.

Power Vinyasa yoga is a general term used to describe a vigorous, flowing style of yoga with an emphasis on strength and flexibility.
