Amy Jeske

Nickname: "MOM!" I don't really have one... but I love it when my kids call me "Honey"

Favorite food: the Northstar burger at the NorthStar Cafe in Columbus, best veggie burger EVER! Favorite place: Boulder, CO

Guilty pleasure: Drinking tea, I'm rarely without a cup of hot tea.

Hobbies: Spending time with my husband and three kids, reading, studying yoga philosophy, teaching yoga and cleaning the kitchen (it's what I do most often!).

Who do you most admire and why? I most admire my sister Margaret because she handles the challenges she's been given with more strength and grace than anyone else I know, many times without complaint. She is an inspiration to me and it just makes my day when I get to connect with her. I wish she lived closer.

What is your favorite yoga pose and why? Trikonasana. I love the feel of reaching through the pose, settling in, and feeling the energy as I open my arms wide. I feel connected to my three children in the 3 triangles that are created, each is different and strong in it’s own way, just like each of my kids.

When did you start practicing yoga? I began practicing yoga in 2008 while training for a half-marathon. I haven't stopped since.

Who are your teachers and where did you train? I received my 200-hour certification from YogaFit. I will complete my 500-hour teacher training in November of 2012 at Yoga on High in Columbus where I have had the privilege of studying with Linda Oshins, Marcia Miller, Martha Marcom, and Gail Spirit Sky. I have been fortunate enough to study with Doug Keller, Rodney Yee, Roger Cole, and David Swenson. I'm looking forward to studying with Judith Hanson Lasater, Anne Douglas, and Richard Freeman this year.

Describe your teaching style: My goal is to bring yoga to anyone. I truly believe that if you can breathe, you can do yoga! My classes link the breath with movement, focusing on proper alignment and sensation within each asana. I specialize in teaching new beginners and leading restorative yoga classes. In addition, I teach yoga as therapy, helping students to reach their goals both on and off the mat.

What is your motto? "Rock On Hanuman!"
